Not sure if I’ve shown you this one before, but it’s a fine view of orchardists lining up on Third Street to deliver their apples to the Davidson Fruit Company or Apple Growers’ Association packing house in what we now call the Union Building. I’ll bet that bakery did plenty of business with all these folks waiting for their turn. The baristas were probably slinging lattes as fast as they could make them.
Based on the unpaved streets and the state of the Union Building, I’d date this between 1906 and 1912.

Patience had to be a must, waiting and waiting, as each of those boxes had to be unloaded by hand.
Plenty of time for a cup of coffee and a pastry that is for sure. Probably a lot of my relatives sat in this line…..

I think they were probably both shot the same day in 1910, probably by W. D. Rogers whose studio was less than a block away.

Nearly the same happens now with grain trucks queing for unloading here in Portland…..the long delays for truck unloading prompt many to ship by rail.
