Historic Hood River
W. H. Howell and Cow
10-8-2025

Notes
Alva Day captured this image of W. H. Howell and his cow in September 1935. We know from the pages of The Hood River Glacier that Mr. Howell and his wife were part time residents of Dee in the 1920s, growing strawberries on their farm in the summer and returning to Los Angeles in the winter.

I would say Mr. Howell’s cow is a Jersey, known for big brown eyes, and thick cream.

I’m wondering if the lumber structure above the fence is an irrigation flume. Nice clear, straight grained lumber.
