Morganne has been busy getting ready for the museum’s new season with a new exhibit titled “Voices of the River.”  At the center of the exhibit is a video by the Confluence Project, but it’s also a chance to highlight some of the Native American items in our collection, such as these flat-twined bags on permanent display.

There will be an opening reception for the exhibit next Sunday, March 10 from 2 to 4PM. It will be a chance to meet the mysterious Morganne whose Monday posts highlight our museum archives, and also to meet our new museum director, who starts tomorrow.

Voices of the River (VOTR) is a story-driven display that introduces visitors to the Columbia River system’s Indigenous history, living cultures and ecologies. It is a collaborative video based production from Confluence, Filmmaker, Woodrow (Woody) Hunt (Klamath/Modoc/Cherokee) and the Confluence Native Cultural Advisory Community. VOTR shares Indigenous experiences, needs, and perspectives to:

•  strengthen Indigenous presence in public spaces and educate people about culturally significant places along the Columbia River

•  honor the efforts, love, and sacrifice of Native partners, and their ancestors, for the River

•  ask visitors take part in caring for the River
