This page from Arline Moore’s photo album is labeled “View South from Winans Hotel 1908.” I’ve never seen an image of the Winans Hotel, but it’s a safe bet it was at Winans, which was a stop on the Mt. Hood Railroad one mile north of Dee. If you look carefully you can see a railroad crossing sign in the middle of the clearing. Here’s a view of the Winans depot on the Mt. Hood Railroad.
The Winans Hotel was apparently built in 1889, as described in this article in The Hood River Glacier. In 1914 we read about the construction of the “New Winans Hotel” at “Winans City.” I’ve never seen any evidence of more than a couple of structures at Winans.

The town of Winans was all plotted out. When I was on the county planning commission, we saw that plot map. It was going to be quite the town.
