Here’s another fine view of Hood River from the east side grade. I count five structures in this map which can help you narrow down the date of this photograph based on previous HHR posts and comments. Who can propose the narrowest date range for this photograph? Please show your work.

I’ll open w/ after 1907, and before 1922-ish, based on bridges!

Is that an old steam paddle wheel roughly where the westbound 84 exit is now?

Yep, I think it’s nosed in to a dock or piling in the backwater slough. Another possible one downstream of railroad bridge, and how about the "house boat’ in foreground west of the ripples in the Hood! That should be the water tank for the steam engines on the left side of the pic above the MHRR tracks.

The railroad turntable would have been just upstream from the tank.

Must be spring flood time. There are leaves on the trees and water on the of the railroad tracks.
This is the first time I remember seeing the bridge crossing over MHRR.

I didn’t mean water "on" the tracks. Should have said "on the south side of the tracks".

Is that a floating house down there on the left bank of the river?

The sternwheeler is docked at the high water landing just north of the train station. And yes, that is a floating house up against the tracks. I’m told that there is still a concrete foundation for the house on the cliff face above the tracks.
But where are the guesses for dates? spinsur’s starting point is good: The wagon bridge was replaced 1919-1920, and that OR&N railroad bridge is circa 1907. So far we have after 1907, before 1919– 12 years. I know we can narrow it a bit.

Pressure, pressure……..that fill leading up to the OR&N bridge seems to lack any vegetation so I would surmise that the photo is real close to 1907 versus 1919….and the fill just looks fresh…..
and thanks Arthur for the Sunday free city parking……had a nice lunch yesterday at Full Sail….boy, you have a busy town on a sunny Sunday afternoon….in "my" day, downtown HR was pretty deserted on a Sunday afternoon.

Isn’t that the back of the Fashion Livery and wasn’t it built at that location in 1916?

And wasn’t the new Highway bridge started and built in 1918? There is absolutely no indication of anyone starting to even think about replacing the bridge.
I am going to say spring of 1917.

That’s the back of the Fashion Garage, which burned in 1929. It was built first decade of 1900s.
The last time we searched for a construction date for the "new" auto bridge I recall it was 1919.
Note the Mt. Hood Hotel Annex (current Hood River Hotel) is in place– constructed in 1913, placing this between 1913 and 1919.
Since I posted this a friend has pointed out that his house on the corner of Bluff Road and East Eugene is not present– it was built in 1914. I think we can say this image was taken in 1913 or 1914– given the water level I think spring 1914 is most likely.
