The Gorge is a scenic area but sometimes that scenery gets in the way of faster transportation and easier transportation.
Much different from when the wagon trains arrived in The Dalles and still had the worst part of the journey to get to the Willamette Valley.

I wonder why it says US 30 on it. That is I-84. US 30 is up on that hillside. The tunnel is in Hood River County and Wasco County starts just this side of the tunnel.

Have enjoyed the part of getting old that forced me off the treadmill, and now allows more time for friends, scenery, history, love, etc. Rushing towards death becomes less attractive every day.

Buzz, I agree with your last line, I’m there too, time for me to get out the bible and study for my final exam. Age is like a roll of toilet paper, the closer you are to the end the faster it goes.

Kenn……once again you give me a new perspective….relating age to a roll of toilet paper; "mostly flushed, some recycled"…..and I agree with you Buzz….more time to do what we want to do versus "have to do". My goodness, the things you stir up Arthur…….

You guys are making me nervous. We really need an Historic Hood River get together before some of you run out of toilet paper. That might happen sooner than expected since the historic Camas Paper Mill is shutting down a large portion of their paper production.

I’ll drink to your idea L.E.! Arlen

Appears to be a road or trail coming down on the left. This may be the grade coming down from west of the twin tunnels to the freeway, our bike descent before the tunnels were re-opened.

LE, surprised to hear the Camas mill is cutting back, a paper mill at Willamette Falls is closed and another on The the West Linn side has announced plans to do the same. The falls will regain the original views but sad to see more industry gone..
