Without the notes on back I never would have located this building. The photo was provided by a Van Riper descendant along with the address 1414 12th Street. That’s the current location of True Gorge Stoves and Spas.
This structure is long gone, but the concrete building under construction looks like building that now houses Volcanic Bottle Shop.
We have another picture of this same building when it housed the Heights Food Store. No mystery what they sold or where they were located!
This was also the location of Hubbard Taylor’s Handy Corner.

Evidently as late as 1948 this was the site of Van Riper Cold Storage Lockers.
Looking at the dust and weeds, it makes you realize it might not have been easy for the Stranahans to have their nice yard and fruit trees just north of this building.

I’m thinking this picture must have been taken in the early to mid 1940’s. Lloyd Van Riper stated that he and his brother (Lawrenace E.) had an appliance repair shop in Hood River for one year.

Not the same block, but north of this block, in the area of Paddocks and the old Radio Shack store, some type of renovation or demolition is taking place. Kind of interesting to walk by and take a peek at the old fixtures and lumber in the building.
