Who doesn’t love a parade? This is a page from Arline Moore’s wonderful informal photo album showing the July 4th festivities of 1916. I posted this before but I like it better when you can enjoy the album page with the original notations. When I posted it in 2012 we learned the Hood River News provided this description:
“In addition to the effective decorating done by the business men for the Fourth, one of the most attractive features was the illumination of the principal streets with red, white and blue lights, which were festooned along and across the streets. This was done through the courtesy of the Hood River Gas & Electric Company, which furnished the juice and strung the wires and the Electric Wiring & Supply Company, which furnished the material.”

Really good photo where the truck has solid rubber tires and you can imagine how rough riding it was, even at lower speeds!

I’ve driven in many parades never been to a Hood River parade.

Judy, they’re both on. The Eyeopeners aren’t doing them but one of their members took the initiative. HR still doing the parade.

Happy Fourth everyone!! I have a dumb question for Arthur….if the daily photos are pre-loaded or pre-programmed to display each morning, why does the computer need a day (or two) off on holidays? Or is it more a matter of people being busy doing other things on the holidays, so they do not check in on this site?

Checked in here this morning and bleh, nothing new.
But I did take a second look at this photo and thought it was interesting the combination of motorized and horse pulled transportation.

kmb, I find holiday weekends, especially in the summer are slow times for this site. I take advantage of the “time off” to queue up images for when I am traveling or on vacation.
