Nice picture of them putting the finishing touches on “The Tire Shop” but I can’t figure out where it is. The Glacier has a shop of this name variously at 4th and Oak, 2nd and Oak, and 3rd and Cascade, but they were not the dealers for Diamond Tires. The Diamond Tires dealer was Tip-Top Motors, variously 1/2 mile or 1 mile west of town. Or it could be “The Heights Tire Shop”. Or maybe this isn’t even Hood River.
[Ed. note: The man in the police uniform is E.S. Olinger, who was longtime constable in Hood River. I can match his face with an image of Olinger driving the stagecoach to Cloud Cap. I can find newspaper references to Olinger as constable as early as 1881 and as late as 1922.]

Can’t help on the tire shop, but may I be the first to remind all the esteemed viewers of this site, that tomorrow is Alva Day Day! Maybe the weather next year will be more amenable to a get-together!

Excellent question @nels. The first issue of the Glacier (1889) list E.S. Olinger as the town constable (Hood River was not yet a city). We have one photo of Olinger driving the stage coach at Cloud Cap, and I have no doubt it’s the same man. This strongly ties this image to Hood River.
