Historic Hood River
The Other Side of the Screen
5-5-2023

Notes
Might as well finish of the week with another fine interior view. A note on the reverse says, “First Butler Bank. Truman Butler at desk in front.” Notes in another hand indicate the other men are Leslie Butler, Harold Hershner, and Carl Vaughn. We previously saw a this interior view of the Butler Bank customer area. I suspect this was taken at the same time, and shows the other side of the screen separating customers from staff.
They’re showing off all their technology: a fine electric lamp, telephone, cash register, and a check printing machine.

Is it my eyes or is there something different with the jacket of the man in the forefront?

Today and yesterday’s photos shows the importance of wall paper. even ceiling paper. Evidently paint on walls was not a thing at that time.

Beautiful furniture. Those electric lights must have been a luxury.
