Historic Hood River
“The House Built By Hans”

Notes
This image looks like it got separated from its album. There are signs of mounting adhesive on the reverse, along with the caption, “The house built by Hans– 1918, 1919 Finished after World War I ended. The first car of family.” Could “Hans” be Hans Lage? Any other guesses? The automobile is a Model T.

Beautiful home. Charlott would help out here.
I wonder if those are rose bushes or blueberry bushes along the driveway? Quite the garden on a dry hillside.
Photo http://historichoodriver.com/index.php?showimage=1142 is probably the home featured in….
History of the Columbia River Valley, published in 1928 says: "….as he prospered, Mr Lage made improvements on the ranch and in 1887 replaced the first modest house with a better structure, which in turn was replaced in 1913 by the present modern and attractive home…."

In today's photo you can clearly see the Model-T has the "curved stamped steel firewall" which means it a post 1915 vehicle.
Maybe Arthur can blow up yesterday's photo, to make sure my belief the car appears to have a "flat firewall" and is a 1914 Model-T or older vehicle.

Where is the Lage home located? Looks kinda like Frank and Ila's home above the old Oak Grove Store, in the '70's……..Lage's live on the Eastside tho, right?

Is there any resemblance to the Club House of the Hood River Golf Course?

I have been living in the Hans Lage House since 1970. Address is 2280 Eastside Road. It was built by L.M. Baldwin and finished in 1914. Doesn't look anything like the the one in the photo. The adjacent red barn was raised July 4, 1890. Hans bought the place in 1876 and lived in the existing structure, sometimes referred to as a shanty. The family moved into the barn while the old structure was demolished and the new house built. Both house and barn sit on fieldstone foundations. The first car on the place was a Star.

Billy Durant, ex President of GM produced the Star from 1922 to 1928.
WAAAM has a 1925 Star Model F touring car we restored and is on display in Museum 2. We last drove it in the 2022 4th of July Parade in Hood River. My wife decorated it with "Stars" and looked really good with the red body paint!
The model F was only produced from 1925 to 1928 and was powered by a 4 cylinder Continental gas engine. It's one of the nicest driving cars of its time period at WAAAM.
