Meet the Hood River Sun, Volume 1, Number 1 from September 28, 1899. This newspaper, not to be confused with the Hood River County Sun from the 1940s and 1950s, lasted just 20 weeks. Its final issue hit the streets on February 8, 1900.
I found this short run boxed with issues of the Hood River Glacier deep in the stacks at the museum last November. It led me on year-long journey which I’ll describe in my Sense of Place lecture this evening at the Columbia Center for the Arts. It’s part detective story and part biography. Hope to see you at 7PM.

It’s called a "teaser". The entire run of the Sun should be online sometime this winter as part of the Oregon Digital Newspaper Program. I got to write a new index entry for the ODNP/ Library of Congress description of known newspapers.
