Historic Hood River
The History of Boredom
7-10-2026

Notes
Here we have definitive proof boring meetings have a long history. This is the 1956 meeting of the Hood River Historical Society, and there is ample evidence this was a boring meeting. Facial expressions indicate no one was particularly engaged. Several of them are struggling to shield themselves from the sun. But at least they could look forward to the raffle: there is a Montgomery Ward “Better Quality” Electric Mixer waiting for the lucky winner.
Unfortunately the Historical Society members didn’t note where this meeting was held. It looks a little like the field at Koberg Beach or the Chautauqua where the hospital is now located.

I would be pretty certain that my Great Uncle Lew Merz and his wife Janice would have been at this gathering. They were two of the people who put together the History Books of Hood River County. And great supporters of the Museum.
