Another stop in the 1950s, this time in Cascade Locks. I would definitely stop at this diner if it were still around. It has not one but two counters with the padded round stools, booths, and homemade pies in a glass case. You can write your postcards while they make your grilled cheese. The only thing missing is the carousel to keep the pies moving.
This building doesn’t seem to have survived. Does anyone recall where it was? I’m guessing the corner of Regulator and Wa-na-pa.

That looks like where Columbia Market is currently. We owned Columbia Market from 1994-2006. It’s a great store and Cascade Locks is a great community. Lots of wonderful folks live there.
I too would have loved eating in such a cute place!

Classic photo with the cafe interior well documented.
The time period is certainly mid-50’s. The Pontiac on the right looks like a ’54 and maybe a ’55-’56 Chevy rear end going down the road. The back end of the car curb side, looks like a late ’40’s Chrysler/De Soto sedan.

This puts a damper on a cheerful photo, but it is what the photo made me think of.
The disappearance of the Martin family. I was just a kid, but I remember it being a topic of conversation for a long time. Adults talking about what they thought might have happened.
We didn’t go to Cascade Locks very often, but I knew where it was and it all seemed so scary.
