Historic Hood River

I believe this is a Frank Patterson image (from a stereo card), probably pre-Condit Dam.  You can see the prominent river delta from the White Salmon, as well as the extensive shoaling which surrounded Wells Island prior to the Condit Dam and the Bonneville Dam.  Sediment from the White Salmon River would soon be trapped behind the Condit Dam.  Now that the dam has been removed we’ll see how quickly the delta and the shoaling return, or if the higher river levels of the Bonneville Pool and the reshaping of the waterfront in Hood River change the river dynamics enough to prevent that.

Note the railroad is in operation on the north shore but not SR14.  I’m not sure I’ve seen the Underwood steamer dock this clearly before.
