Notes
The Coffee Spot and Schlosser Machine anchored Oak Street when Sally Donovan captured this image in 1990. Now “Ground Coffee” is at 12 Oak Street, and the site of Schlosser Machine (earlier Cuddeford Blacksmith, later The Kayak Shed) is vacant following a fire. The New Yasui Building is now to the west, at the site of an early Yasui Bros. Store location and 1890s post office.

I lived in one of the 2nd floor apartments of this building from 1946 to 1951. At the time, it had been called “The Downing Building”. It was rumored that Mr Downing had acquired the building during WW ll while the original owners, the Yasui’s, were in a concentration camp

The Coffee Spot had excellent grinders (sub sandwiches) in the 80s. Sometimes my dad would treat me to one after piano lessons.
