My Grandma had a fur coat. She was so proud of it, but, I don’t know what kind of fur it was.

I remember that in the 1940’s, a fur coat was considered to be very special.

Having mentioned fur coats, I also remember that back around 1955 or so, my science teacher, Mary Hawkes, raised chinchillas in her basement, and sold them to a coat maker in Portland.

My father bought a mink coat for my mother in the
1980’s. She was mad, embarrassed, and refused to
wear it. Even tried to give it to one of us three girls.
Negative. And when I went off to college in the mid 50’s she tried to make over a leopard skin fur coat from my great aunt for me. Nope. Times change.

Does anyone have photos of the house boats on the Columbia Near where ferment brewery is today from the late 1940’s?or any information on them?

Sean, The History Museum has a photo album depicting Dave Warrenka’s early years growing up in a houseboat on the Columbia. It is very well done and might be of interest to you.
