Another “you never know what you’ll find in the archives” moment. This postcard from Tallinn, the capital of Estonia, was in the Wilmuth Gibson biography file. The message on the reverse, though in English, doesn’t do much to clear up the mystery. We saw Wilmuth in his high school chemistry class in this image.

This doesn’t have much to do with the photo, but, when I was young, my family would visit an elderly man who lived out in the hills of Yacolt, WA. He was from Estonia, which no longer existed as a country during my youth, since it had been taken over by the Soviet Union.
He was a small wiry man, with a soft voice. He called me "the little one". I only remember him living in a one room cabin, but I was told he had been burned out by two Yacolt burns.
I was too young at the time, but he is one of those people that I wish I could go back in time and talk to, and the country of Estonia has always held a bit of fascination for me.

My grandmother and grandfather on my father’s side immigrated to USA from Estonia, not sure of date, I think in 1920s. He opened a cobbler shop in Milwaukee WI, which became a neighborhood grocery store by the time I was a young boy – (my earliest memories) about 68 years ago.
