Historic Hood River
Switches and Gauges
10-24-2019

Notes
What a great grouping of early knife switches and meters. It’s hard to see a knife switch without thinking of Frankenstein. The Gauge in the middle is labeled “Crest of Spillway” and “Water Stage Indicator” so it is likely part of a hydroelectric facility.

For a somewhat more modern version, you can visit the abandoned powerhouse at Condit. I was just there four weeks ago, it is an interesting site.

For an older version visit the abandoned powerhouse at White River Falls.

My two year old grandson would love this place. All kinds of levers, buttons, and dials to manipulate.

This is a pretty fancy control room to be using marble on the face. But screws to remove the covers to repair I assume. Anymore hints?
I’d love to pull that big lever on the left, It looks important.
ArthurB
Big lever to the left opens the trap door.

For this area probably related to a dam, but also similar to substations on electric railroads.

Marble is pretty fancy, but also note that it is the only insulation medium between the poles of those open knife switches!
