Notes
It looks like George Thomson is mowing the lawn in his Sunday finest. Their house was on the corner of 9th and Cascade, diagonally across from the old armory building. I think it may have been the largest building in Hood River until Thomson and partners built the Paris Fair building.
By this date (circa 1912) the armory was used as a carpentry shop with a roller skating rink on the second floor. We saw it in its earlier days here. It burned in July 1915, and the lot remains vacant to this day.

It’s amazing that the reel mower has not scooted out and left George on the ground. It must have had a very tight blade setting when contacting the horizontal bar.

Interesting that cigar and pipes have mostly disappeared from common scenes, whereas
a great majority of old photos have people relaxing with pipes, cigars, and cigarettes.

I agree with nails. Looks like a victory smoke after mowing.
I remember the relax with a cigar jingle. From the 1970 commercial.
