You may recognize Edna and Olga Plog from some earlier pictures. The third woman is Lola Graff Galligan. They are packing strawberries circa 1920.

Back in the day when kids were allowed to work.
Maybe better wording would be "had to work".
I wonder if those strawberries had good flavor.

Lola was my grandfather’s second wife. Spend a lot of time with them..

I read an early 1900’s newspaper interview of a White Salmon resident. who said White Salmon’s strawberries would come on three weeks earlier than Hood River’s.
White Salmon took their berries across the river to be shipped to market and HR would promote them as HR berries.

My boys picked strawberries in the summer in HR. Didn’t make much money, but kept them busy.
