Historic Hood River
Stoddard and Eccles Planing Mill at Ruthton
7-7-2015

Notes
Here’s another view of the planing mill at Ruthton. You can read the details. The writer claims there were more men at this mill than at the city of Hood River. I suspect that’s an exaggeration, as Hood River had more than 750 people by 1900.

Eccles and Stoddard were Latter-Day Saints who formed the Oregon Lumber Company in 1889.
I suppose most of these men were Mormon and moved on to other communities. It would be interesting to know how many remained here in the Hood River area.
Longshot
Interesting roof, wonder how well it shed water?
Longshot
There appears to be a tank on the roof. Maybe for fire water, maybe for other purposes?

Aileen Eccles Gaddy was one Eccles who stayed. Bill Gaddy was her husband, and their four girls are Shawn, Robyn, Doone, and Kimberley. I used to babysit them.
