Historic Hood River
State Line

Notes
I wasn’t sure how you could enter Washington from Oregon and still keep the Columbia River to your left, but it turns out they didn’t move the river since Alva Day visited in 1940. While most traffic to the Tri-cities now uses Interstate 82, you can still take route 730 and see this view, mostly unchanged by the passage of decades.
Guesses on the automobile? My first thought was Chevy Master Deluxe, but the radiator doesn’t quite match.

I like the truck load of large hay bales in the modern day view.
This section of highway and the I-90 section of highway that crosses the Columbia at Vantage is a good way to get kids to look at a map. Kids growing up in the Gorge area think if you cross the Columbia you are going between Washington and Oregon. Or, that you have to cross the Columbia to get from one state to the other.
I often times go this way if I am going to Walla Walla.

One of the many reasons that I like and appreciate this site is for the occasional geography lesson on places I have not been to. This is a good example…had to get out my atlas and find where this is. Of course, I could have cheated by just clicking on the Google maps link, but I still like to check my paper maps. That tells you I am old-school – and just plain old.
