This is at the annual Mother’s Day Tea that was always held at Wy’east. I can’t say if it continued after I graduated, but was still held the 4 years I was in school. I don’t recall that every year the May Pole event was held. If you notice it is mother’s in their finest in the back ground. Used to have a lot of fine events…..

Attended many dances in high school gyms. Who cared about the elegance of the gym when there were all those pretty young ladies to dance with.

We always had a May Day celebration at the high school I went to. The freshman girls always did the May Pole dance. It was really fun to see the ribbons going around the May Pole.

I went to a religious college in Tennessee (Maryville College) and they always had the Maypole ceremony. It’s a pagan holiday. And it was the only day of the year that males and females could be in the woods together. And they made good use of it.

Back in the day, meaning in the early 1900’s, Pine Grove used to have quite a festival on or around May Day. Know that one of the events was the May Pole and they had what they called "The Queen of the May. I know my great aunt Florence Clark was the Queen one year. I haven’t a clue how the queen was chosen. I think we might have seen a picture on here to do with May Day at Pine Grove, a very, very long time ago. I have a poem that her father, my great grandfather wrote to her about it.

Charlott- I am not sure when you graduated. My oldest sister went to Wy East until her Senior year. The next year she went to Hood River Valley High School. If I am not mistaken, Wy East High School held the Mothers Day Tea until it ceased to be a High School.
