The folks in this Ella May Davidson image seem way too happy for the task at hand. It looks like they have at least a little protection from the chemicals they are about to spray on their orchard– hats and long sleeves. The horses aren’t as well protected/ This image is circa 1912. Steam powered sprayers were a relatively new invention.

I love the seat sitting sideways so you can spray the trees as they travel through the orchard.
The rights and wrongs of spraying will always be a conundrum.
