These cardboard boxes labeled “Hood River Apples & Pears” have individual shipping labels. I’m guessing this is some promotional shipment. The “Railway Express” cart looks like it could be from the 1920s, but those cardboard boxes and artwork look more like the 1970s to me.
The ability to load fresh fruit into refrigerated rail cars helped create a nationwide brand for Hood River fruit many decades before this image was captured, and continues to this day.

Arthur, I think the time period is older than you think since steel box strapping and pin striped RR workers clothing goes way back in time.

have photos from 1920s when Swanson Bay use for salmon processing – perhaps by Coleman Evans. Is there someone on staff familiar with the above history?
