Historic Hood River
Snow Softball

Notes
Here’s a fun Donnerberg photo from the Crag Rats collection. The softball game is being playing in the snow between men on skis and men on snowshoes. Who do you think won? I’d imagine the snowshoes have an advantage fielding, though the skiers might have an advantage running bases.

They also used to go up to Green Point and have hockey games on the ice. I know my Dad had skates. I remember one time going up Fir Mountain to a pond that is up there when it was very, very cold. Dad skated and I and my brothers had socks on over our boots and skated along. My Dad is probably in this photo, as he loved baseball. It is too bad that actual faces could not be pulled out of this.
I do have photos that Fred Donnerberg took.

By the hills in the background, can anyone tell where this might be taking place?

I think I recognize WT Hukari- 2nd from right with the fedora, and hands on thighs…
Longshot
Bald Butte in the background on the left and Shellrock Mt to the right. I would guess that the game was being played on some flattish area along Cooper Spur Rd.
