I wonder if these skiers are waiting for the starter’s pistol or if they’re just posing for a group photo. This is a Hood River Ski Club photo from 1928. There’s not much in the way of specialized gear. It looks like it wasn’t a particularly cold day on the mountain.

14 racers of varying age …. One might suspect that this photo was taken near Cooper Spur Ski area perhaps given the year. The " Ski Hill " itself appears to have limited slope. The numbers likely indicate a " race event " …. The snow quality looks warm.. the ski poles al look way tall !!!
