Historic Hood River
Shepperd’s Dell
6-5-2015

Notes
We complete this week of Weister CRH postcards with this view of Shepperd’s Dell. I think this view of this bridge shows how perfectly the engineers integrated the highway with the surrounding beauty of the Columbia River Gorge.

In his usual, informative and interesting style, Tom Kloster has a blog about Shepperd’s Dell.

I just checked out from the White Salmon Library a big book titled, "Oregon Then & Now" Benjamin Gifford/Steve Terrill
Steve Terrill has taken Benjamin Gifford photos and duplicated the scene in 1999-2000.
I like picture books and this is a good one.
Some of the most impressive changes are the Historic Highway photos. B. Gifford has a similar shot of Shepperd’s Dell. In Terrill’s photo, about all you see is the yellow center line and trees.
Another one is Bishop’s Cap. Quite an impressive rock in 1915. In the 2000 photo, you would not even know there was a rock there. It is covered with trees.
I will have the book back to the library in about two weeks. You can check it out then.
