Historic Hood River

I can date this theater image to 1916 based on the movie titles advertised.  There’s “Haystacks and Steeples,” Pauline Frederick in “Woman in the Case“, and Douglas Fairbanks in “Manhattan Madness“. It looks like evening shows cost 10 cents.

I did a double take when I saw the dog, who looks an awful lot like the famous Sammy, theater owner Art Kolstad’s hitchhiking dog. The only problem is there is no way this dog could be the same one Bill Pattison cared for as a child in the 1930s.  Since he’s hanging out in front of the theater, I’m guessing the this is a direct ancestor of Sammy, perhaps Sammy #1?

I think this is the Liberty/ Cascadian Theater, not the Rialto.
