In the very early days of this site, 14 years ago, we went on a two week road trip from Hood River to the Bend area, circa 1921. This is still one of my favorite collections. I encourage you to revisit those ten post, starting here. This image didn’t make it into the series on 2011, but it’s a nice view of what I believe is one of the high mountain lakes SW of Bend. Do you recognize the spot? I bet that peak in the background gives it away.
We still don’t know who these intrepid travelers were, but we can only admire their adventurous spirit to launch into such remote corners of the state in such a primitive machine.

That dock or footbridge seems a bit odd. As does the boat, apparently swamped or sunken. And are those other boats under the trees on the right? Almost a little boat graveyard.

Thanks for the historical road trip Arthur, nice distraction from current events in the Gorge. I can’t imagine that journey back then.
