This ODOT image had the caption “Wygant Park-Hoodriver Sect. Columbia River Hiway ‘Harr+Horten Hot Plant’ May 53”. It shows the 1953 construction site as they created a river level route to replace the Columbia River Highway path through the Mitchell Point Tunnel.

Back around 1959, when there were not trails in this area, I hiked from Post Canyon Road, Hood River out to Mitchell Point.

I’ve hiked that trail from Post Canyon to Mitchell Point. It’s a great view from the top!

When I was growing up in the 1970’s. A traveling circus it was!
A batch plant with a drum mixer. Not sure the task of the drag line, probably gathering material to feed the asphalt plant.
I’ve worked on and driven a 54 Peterbilt just like that.
