This Laraway plate is a real head scratcher. There’s a newly planted fruit tree in the foreground, a pile of freshly crushed rock and some odd rigging. Nothing looks very sturdy. I recall Dean Fletcher wondered if this be the remains of “the pebble”, a glacial erratic which Harlan Bretz had noted on the top of Van Horn Butte which was removed in Laraway’s era. I don’t think the surrounding trees match all.

It’s a shame to break up that granite erratic. It traveled down from Montana, only to be chunked up here, sad really…..! Poof, gone…., lack of foresight….!

My first reaction to this photo was some type of catapult or trebuchet device to launch "pebbles" onto the neighboring town.

Sad to see it blown to bits…There are a few up in NCWashington and a swell one in NE Seattle. They built the street around it. Also way up in B.C., oh yeah, a couple just outside the Ballard Locks….in Ballard.
My sister lives just across the water from them, quite visible at low tides.
What a travel trip they did!
