Historic Hood River
Rialto Remodel
10-31-2016

Notes
While the Rialto Theater is long gone, we’re lucky to still have the blueprints from a 1944 remodel. It’s hard to read so I only show the detail from the building entrance area, including the prominent overhead marquee, ticket window, and sweeping stairways up to the mezzanine. The plans indicate wonderful details like glass and wood railings, birch banisters and glass encased columns. I wish I had seen the building in its heyday.

Did it have all of those details?

Good question, LE. I was surprised to even see wartime remodel plans. I wonder if Art Kolstad got sticker shock when he saw the construction estimates or if he went all the way with the remodel.
