Completion of the Bonneville Dam in 1938 put the locks at Cascade Locks out of commission, but it was not until September 10 1953 that the massive lock gates were removed. Apparently two of them were too badly silted in to be removed.

Hopefully they were open when they silted in. If they were closed, who knows what might be silted in behind them.

Interesting barge mounted crane, would be quite long when lowered for transportation.. I would like to have seen it in operation and while being moved through any of the locks.

Wonder is the crane is still out there somewhere working away?

It says "US Derrick Barge Cascade." I think the symbol is the Army Corp of Engineers logo.

Would guess the boom was at least partially dismantled when being transported.

Yes, that would have belonged to the Corp of Engineers as that is their insignia.
