Historic Hood River
Remembrance of Things Past

Notes
This image from April 1980 shows a hitching ring which had survived long beyond the horse and buggy era. I wonder when it was used for the last time? Hitching posts and hitching rings used to be critical infrastructure in commercial districts.
The caption indicates this was on the south side of A Street between 12th and 13th Streets. This is where Juanita’s Market is. Much of that old curb still survives, but I don’t think the ring is still there. I’m pretty sure there are a couple still around town, though.

I wonder if the rings were made by a local blacksmith.

I wonder what will be left when we depart the auto era……love to see these on our volkswalks.

Hubcaps, Arlen. Lots of hubcaps.
