Historic Hood River
Railroad Switch Lamp
9-16-2024

Notes
This week’s Madeleine’s Monday showcases a 19 inch tall kerosene railroad switch lamp. Made by the Adlake company most likely pre-1930, this lamp would inform the train engineer which way a railroad switch was set. The aqua colored lens would be lit when the switch was set to straight ahead, whereas an amber signal meant the switch was set to the side. Apparently, the yellow hue produced by the kerosene flame would cause the aqua lens to glow green. See this post for a few pictures of the lamp when lit.

Perfect, just the one I have been looking for to top my MHRR switch that displays my address at the top of my driveway!
