Historic Hood River
Prince and His Charges
3-31-2015

Notes
Summer swimming lessons at Koberg Beach, at least for some, were an important part of growing up in Hood River. Lifeguard and instructor Prince Koberg always seemed to be around when a photographer snapped a few shots. It’s rare to see the swimming cage at Koberg without him somewhere in the scene.

Nice photo, was/is Prince really his given first name? Or a nickname?

Looks like the girls outnumbered the boys!
Arthur
Yes, his real name was Prince William Koberg, and he had a brother named Earl. Here’s Prince’s headstone at Pine Grove cemetery: http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GSln=Koberg&GSiman=1&GSst=39&GRid=31571025&

Looks like there is a building up on Burdoin Mtn.
