Historic Hood River
Port of Hood River Project

Notes
Here’s the Hood River boat basin and industrial park as completed in 1962. To help you orient, the northern extent of the fill land is roughly where Portway Avenue is now. The Event Site and cruise ship dock were built on additional fill north of this project. The Expo center and all the rest of the lands now lining the Columbia are west of this fill.
Note an early version of the city’s wastewater treatment plant is in roughly its current location. I’m not sure if it is located on an earlier fill project, or if that is a high area which escaped flooding by Bonneville Dam.
Tomorrow we’ll hear the story of the USS Banning, an early resident of the basin.

Gives a good view of how the Hood River wanders down through there. Also a good view of how Serpentine goes up the hill.
Notice how sparsely settled the area is out around the Belmont area. Times do change, don’t they.

Sorry Arthur, but the waterfront is boring. It is more interesting to look at the town and the landscape.
They really needed to make a fill for the freeway didn’t they? There was no place to put it.

This is the boat basin I remember while growing up. We spent a lot of time fishing at the boat docks near the Banning, and at the west end near the overpass and mound.

Appreciate seeing the changes that have taken place in the Hood River area since I left. Don’t have to always like them, but can accept their inevitability

I am trying to find a photo of a plot of land my wifes Great Great Grand parents purchased in 1946. I have township and range if anyone is really good at it I would love to see if you agree with me. I think I can see the plot in this photo on the far right. Here is the legal description…
Commencing at a point on the East line of Section 27, Township 3 North, Range 10 East of the Willamette Meridian, 40 rods from the South line of said Section; thence North along said section line 40 rods; thence West 10 rods; thence South, parallel with the East line of said Section, 40 rods; thence East 10 rods to the place of beginning. The tract hereby conveyed containing 2 acres, more or less.
