Notes
We don’t see many good old interior images of schools because the lighting was so difficult. The photographer managed to adjust the shades well enough to capture this view, I think with natural light (all the faces seem to be lit equally). No year is recorded, but the dress and hair styles match a class picture from 1903-04.
On the reverse someone has written “see Nell Vannier”. I another hand it says “Athalie Lage.”
Check out the classroom dictionary at the left margin. We have several of these at the museum, as well as a beautiful map case– all relics of the pre-digital era.

Nell Vannier is probably Nelle Johnson, daughter of Ralph and Mary Ann Johnson. She married Joseph Vannier in 1911.
She moved to Hood River in 1901 when she was about eight years old.
Joseph and Nelle had an orchard on Paasch Rd.
Athalie Lage must have been Mary Athalie Miller Lage who was born in Hood River and passed away in Hood River at the age of 103.
I agree William Seaton. Charlott may not have known everyone in the photo but she definitely would have known the two ladies mentioned.
