It’s time to be thinking about summer vacations. This image is from the Pansy Travis Diskin collection. If you recall she was a teacher in the Coe Elementary School for many years. I think she is the child to the right in this image. The note on the reverse says,
Henrietta and George Craybill and I. Taken in a little town between Gunnison and Salida.
A while back we saw this image of the Herschner family at Pikes Peak, so it appears to have been a popular destination for Hood Riverites. It looks like there are railroad tracks in the background, so perhaps they were traveling by rail.

I think you’re right about that being Pansy Diskin. She was my first grade teacher at what was called Coe Primary. She had a round face and very distinctive eyes, as seen in the photo.

In 1955 I was one of Mrs Diskins first graders. I can still remember some of the stories she told about growing up on a farm in Kansas like the barn catching fire and the horses refusing to leave. My aunts family alo came from Kansas and she recalled stories of her family going out to Pikes Peak in the fall to hunt. The Rockies must have been a nice change of pace from the plains of the Midwest.
