Historic Hood River

Notes

This image shows the state of the art in fruit grading/sizing as manufactured by August Guignard and Fritz Rosiger’s Ideal Fruit Grader Company.  Notes on the reverse mention The Hood River Glacier, so it must be from before 1933.  Those apples look horrible, so I’m guessing it wasn’t going to be reproduced at a large size.

In these posts we’ve seen the evolution from the very manual process to the most modern machinery.  We’ve seen apple popularity shift from Spitzenburgs and Newton Pippins to modern hybrids like Cosmic Crisp.

What will the next hundred years bring?
