Meet the packing house crew at the Bill Taylor Farm. We have ID’s on most of the folks in the picture. It looks like a family operation, as almost all the names are either Taylor or Morgan.

As one who hap packed more boxes of fruit than I can count, I find the pack of these boxes very interesting to me. I can’t be totally certain but that looks like an 8×8 pack which would be 126 pieces of fruit to the box. Apparently they had not come up with the "real" apple box, for a 3×2 or 3×3 pack yet.

So they took their children to work with them?

I rather doubt it, however when I was little and basically the Walter Wells and Sons packing house was family, there was a big stove in one corner that sat out from the wall a few feet. My cousins and my brothers before they went to school were taken to work with their Mama’s and they had blankets and toys behind that old stove and that is where they spent many an hour. Everyone went home for lunch, then back and had their naps behind the stove. When we older ones got out of school we came and "hung out" at the packing house. That is why I knew how to pack fruit before I ever went to junior high.
