This building is signed “Pacific Meat Company/Packing House/Cold Storage/Abattoir/1895”. Unfortunately the name “Pacific Meat Company” has been used a couple of times so I am not sure which one this is. I wonder if it might be this one, which is now an EPA superfund site– not because of meat processing but the use of dioxin laced fuels in a smelter in more recent times. One of the buildings to the left is labeled “Ice House”.

No, not at all. It could have been something Laraway saw on a trip to California, or anyplace else on the west coast.
