Historic Hood River
One Pole Skiing
12-12-2011

Notes
Friday’s ski-themed post provoked some fun discussion, so I’m sure we’ll get some good explanations for this one. I have vague recollections of watching ski lessons using a single pole like this, but I can’t recall what the point was. Anyone care to shed some light on the subject?

Temira
It’s a lurk, a single pole used in Telemark skiing. =)
Craig McCurdy
The single pole was called a Lurk and was used for balance and turning.

They are just goofing off. Location, looks like some older generation ‘crag rats’, and just to the picture right would be Cloud Cap Inn? Maybe….that ridge is very familiar with Hood in the background. Us rats know it well,

Use a lurk in the trees and you are out of luck!
Chris
What year was the picture taken?
Charlott
Yes, that is definitely right outside Cloud Cap, but hard to tell what the year might be. The guy in the back is a passenger apparently.
