In the 1950’s Oak Grove had a full service convenience store for all the campers on their way up to Green Point, Camp Yallani, Rainy or Wahtam Lakes. They were even open part of the day Sunday. Check out that canned ham! It could feed the family for a weekend at the lake.
We’ve seen the Sunset Auto Park in its early days before. It survives as the Sunset Motel and RV park.

Wonder who the child is standing outside the store….
My cousins lived on Kenwood Dr- we walked to the Oak Grove Store many times- for candy! And remember the Fenwicks well.
Another Hukari
Hey Bet It wasn’t JUST the penny candy- we got sent over for so many last minute things! Coffee, milk, fresh ground hamburger meat, cheese,canned tuna or soup, onions, potato, lettuce heads whatever mom needed to fix a fast lunch or finish dinner, Frank and Ila had it. For us living in oak grove it was the close by everything store. And they knew everyone, and gave out monthly credit too.
Plus it was a gathering place for the orchardists’ in the area, you’d often find a bunch of them bunched around chatting away- and they say women gossiped!

My parents owned the Sunset Auto Park in the early 1960’s. It was called the Sunset Launderette and Cottages. The laundromat was up on the street at that time. Hard to beleive that was 60 years ago!
