Arline Moore’s small photo album starts with the disclaimer that the scenes “while not particularly good as picture are judged do give an idea of the time and place of those years”. This image lives up to that promise! While the football action is not particularly clear, this makeshift football field down on “the sandbar” shows how different the Hood River delta was before the Bonneville dam. In 1910 the sandbar had well-established trees, grassy patches, farm fields, shacks, as well as sandy beaches. All of it was subject to seasonal flooding, but at low water you could head down there for a football practice.
Any guesses about who the “HRBC” football team were?

Our high school football coach on the Washington side of the River took the football team down to the sand banks along the River for practice.
That was in the 1960’s.
