This image introduces us to a new album in our digital collection. We previously saw images from Alta Walter’s album– this is from volume two, covering 1925 to 1944.
In 1929 Alta was joined by her friends Grace Palmiter and Viola (don’t have a last name) on a trip to Yellowstone in this 1926 or 1927 Ford Model T Roadster. This adventure is impressive on so many ways– that three young women were traveling 1500 miles in that era, that they traveled the distance in a Model T, that all three of them squeezed into that very narrow front seat– but we know they made it to Yellowstone National Park and toured all the classic sites.
Happy New Years from everyone at the History Museum of Hood River County! Historic Hood River will take off New Year’s Day, but will return in 2024 with a new year’s worth of images from old years.

Two gutsy gals who had the spirit of adventure back then.
At least the Model-T was post 1924 so the gas tank was elevated in the dash and could go uphill for extended distances and still not starve the carburetor of gas.

I think this site could be called Sense of Place like the presentations. These photos give me such as understanding of this community and how it was founded, grown, and continues to grow and change.
