Historic Hood River
Old Bridge/ New Bridge
5-14-2024

Notes
This 1982 ODOT image shows the replacement of the Columbia River Highway bridge across the Hood River. From this point of view you can see how the alignment was modified to remove what used to be a “T” intersection at the east end of the bridge. The new bridge was considerably higher and connected directly to Button Junction instead of the junction by the railroad bridge. By this date you could access the Interstate bridge from Button junction instead of by going to the left and under the railroad bridge.
The bridge was 62 years old when it was replaced. Its replacement is now 42 years old.
