Notes

Here’s another fun Olga Plog photo of her Odell High School team from 1923-24. Olga coached the team.

Olga must have taught at Odell first, then at White Salmon. Her White Salmon basketball photo is 1926.

I believe these coaching gigs were in addition to being a classroom teacher. She taught elementary school while coaching the high school basketball team. There are mentions of the coming and going of teachers in the Glacier. She graduated from the state teachers' college shortly before getting this job. She's not that much older than these girls she is coaching.

I am curious about what the girls are wearing – some type of skirt, or skorts, or what?. Since they are all dressed the same, it appears to be some type of uniform. Would this be a dress-up uniform for photo ops only, or is this what they actually played in back then? My jump shots would be fairly modest if I were wearing a skirt.

I think they are a sort of long bloomer thing.

I found the girls team of 1923, with some of the same girls, my grandmother included. In comparison that my picture, this picture appears to be of: Dorothy Pemberton, Mary Shute (my grandmother), possibly Francis Fletcher, possibly Emily Fletcher, Vienna Annala, and possibly Lela Barrie. They wore the same uniforms in 1923 as they did in this and the “pyramid” picture in the another post under Odell high school. I'll try to submit my picture with my grandmother's handwriting on the back.
